Adele Announces Musical Hiatus

Fans of Adele, brace yourselves. The vocal powerhouse just announced she’s taking a break from music.

During an interview with German news outlet ZDF, she shared, “I don’t have any plans for new music at all.” This probably means it’s going to be quite a long wait before we see a follow-up to her 2021 album.

The “Someone Like You” singer had a Vegas residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum in 2022. Adele previously shared on X how she valued the opportunity to reconnect with her music and live performances.

“This residency, these shows have changed my life,” she posted. “I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have. I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!”

“Being onstage over the last year so up close and personal with an audience again after all these years has been a truly extraordinary restorative experience that I’ll never forget. All the hilarious, soulful, wild and heartbreaking interactions we’ve had are banked in my mind for life,” Adele concluded.

Her last concert (for now) will be on November 23, 2024 after performing 10 shows from August 2 to 31 at Munich’s Open Air Arena.

But what does she want to do during her musical hiatus?

According to a quote from The New York Post, “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”

“I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time,” she explained.

After Adele was asked if she was interested in founding her own production company, the vocalist answered, “I don’t want to build my own things, I want to work with something. I don’t want to create something. I want to join something. That’s how I feel. That’s what I’d actually love.”

She continued, “People think it’s hilarious, and they don’t take me seriously. And I often say to my manager, ‘I think I could make some really great stuff, I want to be really successful at something.’ And he’s like, ‘What?!’ I was like, ‘I know, but [music] is my hobby. I just fell into it and then it just happened. I want to be in TV and behind the scenes.“

Adele released her first album when she was only 19 years old. Since then, she has produced three more albums in 2011, 2015, and 2021.
