The Trending Fish Sperm Facial Among Celebrities
What do Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian have in common? The two celebrities have shared that they’re using salmon sperm in their beauty regimens.
During The Kardashian’s July 11 episode, reality star Kim K revealed her newest anti-aging ritual. “I got a salmon sperm facial with salmon sperm injected into my face,” the 43-year-old said to her mom Kris Jenner.
Meanwhile, former Friends actress Jennifer Aniston has been reportedly using salmon sperm facials after it was recommended by her aesthetician. Aniston told Hollywood Life she hasn’t noticed any major results but she has been receiving “weekly peptide injections” to fight the signs of aging.
“I do think that’s the future,” she claimed, referring to the procedure.
Why Salmon Sperm?
The novelty beauty treatment comes from South Korea and is marketed under different brands, including the Rejuran SkinBooster. It relies on DNA extracted from the sperm of salmons and costs around $500 per session.
The surprising new treatment is valued for its polynucleotides, small molecules that encourage a plump, dewy, smooth, and moisturized complexion. It also facilitates skin renewal and repair. Additionally, polynucleotides are credited with reducing the appearance of sunken and lumpy scars, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, rosacea, and melasma.
They can be injected into various parts of the body, including the face, body, neck, eye area, décolletage, arms, abdomen, thighs, and hands.
However, not many studies have looked into the substance’s skincare properties so it’s best to do your own research before giving it a try. After all, the procedure entails not just applying it directly onto the skin but also injecting it into the dermis.
Dermatologist Joshua Zeichner said last August, “Salmon [semen] has been shown to improve skin, hydration, plumpness, texture, and wrinkles. The effects on the skin are thought to be due to high DNA levels. DNA is composed of amino acids, which have long been used in skin care for their hydrating and cell-renewing benefits.”
Kim K’s Other Controversial Beauty Treatment
Aside from salmon sperm, Kim K has also been known to undergo the vampire facial, another controversial beauty procedure that involves having one’s blood drawn from the body. It combines microdermabrasion with a beauty mask of platelet-rich plasma, boosting cellular turnover and enhancing rejuvenation.
She later regretted the procedure, saying, “It was really rough and painful for me. It was honestly the most painful thing ever! It’s the one treatment that I’ll never do again.”
