Miley Cyrus Reflects On Writing “II Most Wanted” For Beyoncé

Miley Cyrus recently shared her deep admiration for Beyoncé in an interview with W Magazine. The 31-year-old pop star opened up about their collaboration on the song II Most Wanted and how performing it with Beyoncé, 42, was a dream come true.
Miley recalled the origins of the song, saying, “I wrote that song about two and a half years ago. My mom would always go, ‘I love that song so much.’ So when Beyoncé reached out to me about music, I thought of it right away because it really encompasses our relationship.”
She further explained, “I told her, ‘We don’t have to get country; we are country. We’ve been country.’ I said, ‘You know, between you being from Texas and me being from Tennessee, so much of us is going to be in this song.'”
Writing a song for Beyoncé wasn’t just an opportunity; it was a significant moment for the Flowers singer. “Getting to write a song, not just sing, for Beyoncé was a dream come true,” she said.
In her daily life, Miley shared a glimpse of her relationship with Beyoncé, noting that they often text each other. “I think it’s a really cute part of our relationship, because over the past couple of years I’ve really locked down on my privacy and on what I share with the public. She’s the same way. Part of our relationship is the safety between us,” she shared.
She added, “The songwriting or the work is just a small part of my relationship with her — or with Dolly, or with anyone. Our public personas have a relationship, but then we have a personal relationship. And I love that.”
II Most Wanted, featured on Beyoncé’s latest album Cowboy Carter, is an uplifting duet that celebrates the devotion between two people. The song is set over an interpolation of the 1975 Fleetwood Mac classic Landslide.
Miley starts the track with the lyrics, “Know we’re jumpin’ the gun, but we’re both still young / One day, we won’t be / Didn’t know what I want ’til I saw your face / Say goodbye to the old me.”
She and Beyoncé then trade verses, singing, “Came out of nowhere, didn’t give no warnin’ / Pedal so heavy, like the two most wanted / And I don’t know what you’re doin’ tonight.”
The duo harmonizes beautifully on the chorus: “I’ll be your shotgun rider ’til the day I die / Smoke out the window, flyin’ down the 405 / I’ll be your backseat baby, drivin’ you crazy / Anytime you like / I’ll be your shotgun rider ’til the day I, ’til the day I die.”
