Mohamed Hadid Apologizes for Sending Bigoted and Incendiary Texts to Rep. Ritchie Torres
Mohamed Hadid, the father of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid, has apologized just hours after the bigoted and homophobic messages he sent New York Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres through Instagram made headlines.
His attacks were also directed towards the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel lobbying group.
“I need to apologize. Not for the anger I feel but for the words I used to express that anger. I intended to express how Mr. Torres is a shill being used by Israel. A state that not only mistreats Black and Brown people but pinkwashes their atrocities using their projected gay rights as a shield for their human rights violations,” he wrote in a lengthy post yesterday.
“My feeling after 76 years of being a refugee from the country where I and my ancestors were born and watching a genocide unfold are at an all time high. I am watching Unites States politicians work as AIPAC messengers of genocide,” the millionaire continued.
Hadid added, “I used the wrong words to express that anger but the anger was warranted. To send Black and Brown and other marginalized communities to do the dirty work of two countries who have never respected them is wrong.”
“I apologize to my community for directing the conversation to this. And even for a minute from Palestine. All eyes on Palestine. Free Palestine.” he concluded.
According to screenshots obtained by The Post, the luxury real estate developer has been bombarding the Democratic Representative with incendiary comments since Israel’s bloody massacre on October 7, 2023.
“You worse than the rats of New York sewage system. They have bigger brains than you. You might get a job as a bouncer at a gay bar. Make sure you dress as KKK to hide that ugly gray colored face of yours”, the 75-year-old Palestinian-American developer wrote, adding that Torres was a “slave to whites.”
“You are just unusual Black and colorful mouth for Israeli and AIPAC and looking for payday of over 500K,” Hadid wrote in the only screenshot shared by the Post.
Torres, who became the first openly gay Afro-Latino member of Congress in 2021, criticized Mohamed Hadid for making him a target of “racist rhetoric” on X.
“Mr. Hadid has hurled just about every racist insult at me short of calling me the N-word.” the Congressman said. “That Mr. Hadid felt so at ease demonizing and dehumanizing a Black member of Congress reveals a tragic truth about our politics: if you are a person of color and pro-Israel, you are fair game for racist invective,” he continued.
Matters remain tense between the two men. Torres feels that Hadid’s apology wasn’t sincere. “The so-called apology is as fraudulent as the man himself. Mr. Hadid has been unmasked as a rabid racist to the core, and his pitiful attempt at a ‘mea culpa’ is fooling no one,” the politician said.
The Hadids, who are Palestinian, have been vocal against the Jewish state.
Bella Hadid, who took to the Bay Ridge on behalf of her brethren in 2021, has lamented “the generational trauma of my Palestinian blood” in her posts.
Gigi Hadid also shared a message on Instagram to support Palestine: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict—too many of which are children. I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, it’s a responsibility I hold daily.”
