Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt Promote The Fall Guy on SNL
Barbenheimer stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt were seen on Saturday’s SNL episode. The pair were promoting their upcoming film The Fall Guy. What stunned audiences, however, was the stars’ unique promotion strategy which involved a Barbenheimer-themed performance!
The Barbenheimer phenomenon took the world by storm because of the two highly-promoted releases on the same day last July. Although it’s been almost a year since their debut, fans and their leading stars can’t seem to get enough of their iconic characters. Perhaps it isn’t that surprising since Gosling and Blunt are strong actors that have been nominated at the Oscars earlier this year.
Gosling, for one, seemed to have a hard time breaking up with his Ken persona, even after multiple attempts by Blunt to force him out of it. Even though Gosling made a note not to mention Ken throughout the promotion, he ended up changing his mind midway, stating, “You know, when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help: the music of the great Taylor Swift.”
The duo ended their performance with a rendition of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well,” joined by dancing Barbies and Oppenheimers. Gosling donned his character’s iconic fur coat and sunglasses and proceeded to sit down at a piano. Blunt played along by singing an homage to her Oppenheimer character, Kitty.
The hosts managed to pull off a stellar performance, attracting the attention of the audience. They also caught the attention of the “All Too Well” singer herself. Swift later took to Instagram to post, “Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is everything.”
The Barbie Oscar nominee will return to the silver screen through director David Leitch’s production of The Fall Guy. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, and Stephanie Hsu.
The movie is based on the 80s TV series of the same name. It transports viewers into the world of stunt professionals. The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March and will be released in the US on May 3, 2024.
While the Barbenheimer stars are still riding on the success of their previous releases, rumors of their crackling chemistry and comedic chops in The Fall Guy are already taking over the internet. In an interview at SXSW, Gosling was all praises for his co-star as he gushed about her acting prowess.
Gosling is also busy working on upcoming projects like Wolfman, The Gray Man 2, and Project Hail Mary. However, fans will have to wait a little longer as their release dates haven’t been announced yet.
Meanwhile, Blunt has multiple projects lined up. This includes Jungle Cruise 2, Live Die Repeat and Repeat, The Smashing Machine, and IF.
With Blunt and Gosling’s combined star power and The Fall Guy’s rave reviews, fans are understandably excited to see more of them in May!
