Sylvester Stallone Opens Up About His Seven Surgeries After Filming The Expendables
In Hollywood, action stars who do their own stunts are regarded as a class apart. Sylvester Stallone is one of those actors who don’t shy away from risky and action-packed scenes. He recently opened up about the seven major operations he underwent after hurting his neck on the set of The Expendables.
During the new season of their family reality show, The Family Stallone, the American actor shared that he had filmed a certain fight scene with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a wrestler turned actor, when he, unfortunately, fractured his neck.
Based on a report from The Sun, the 77-year-old filmmaker shared, “I did stupid stuff. I was directing Expendables and like an idiot I’m doing take ten, take whatever, and I remember one slam and I could actually feel one bang. Steve knew. I never recovered from Expendables.”
Sylvester revealed that after that movie, he suffered some long-term physical afflictions, prompting him to warn fellow actors that they should never do their own stunts.
His wife, Jennifer Flavin, added, “Sly tries to mask the pain, pretending like it didn’t happen. He doesn’t like people to know he’s had so many back surgeries. It’s very scary for our family every time Sly has to go through surgery, because you never know…no one knows.”
One of Sylvester’s daughters, Scarlett, noted, “It’s really hard to see my father go through yet another painful operation. My whole childhood, he’s been in pain.”
Recall that the actor had a piece of metal inserted into his neck because of the mishap. He also had spinal fusions and other treatments for his dislocated shoulders.
Sylvester also recently shared that he had his daughters take a self-defense training program with the Navy SEALs before his family moved to New York City.
During an interview with Sylvester, his family, and the New York Post, the actor admitted that he was nervous about his daughters living in the Big Apple.
Sistine admitted, “Sophia and I got our a**es whooped by these guys. They were the real deal. It was the hardest. It was about six hours we were in those woods.”
However, the ladies revealed that they are used to these kinds of training because they had several similar military-esque classes while growing up because of their father.
Sophia recalled one particularly memorable and rigorous exercise regimen that their father put them through. It involved being up by 6 AM for a weird breakfast of eggs with ketchup to add bulk to their bodies. She added, “But then it was a lot of sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, clean and jerks.”
Sistine comically added that their father “made the perfect boys.”
In the last few weeks, the Stallone family has been busy meeting the press and promoting their family reality show, The Family Stallone. The show’s first eight episodes are now available on Prime Video, Apple TV, Paramount Plus, and the Roku Channel. Its second season is about to premiere.
