Here’s What Dakota Johnson had to say about being on “The Office”
The beloved sitcom The Office, starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, and the likes has had a cult following for a while. The show garnered quite the fame because of its off-beat sense of humor and exemplary writing. The sitcom also saw many guest stars, including Rickey Gervais, Even Peters, Jim Carrey, and even Dakota Johnson.
Recently, when chatting with Seth Meyers to promote her new movie Madame Web, Dakota Johnson was asked about her time on the set of The Office. Her answer may not be what fans were expecting.
The Madame Web star revealed, “That was honestly the worst time of my life.” In the 2023 series finale, Johnson had a small part. In the episode, she is hired by Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) to replace Kevin (Brian Baumgartner). Despite the small role, Johnson said she was on set for a much longer time than she expected.
The 50 Shades of Gray franchise alum revealed she was thrilled when she was offered the part. “I loved that show so much, and they were like, ‘Do you want to be in the series finale?’ And I was like, ‘Of course,’ thinking that I’d show up for like half a day. I was there for two weeks, and I’m barely in the (expletive) show,” she revealed.
Johnson also admitted that the vibe on set was rather somber, as it was the sitcom’s last episode, adding to Johnson’s feeling out of place. She further added, “There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years. Some people didn’t speak to each other, and I’m coming in like, ‘So excited to be here!’ And no one wanted to talk to me. Nobody gave a f*ck”
Despite being on the set for two whole weeks, Johnson didn’t have much screen time, She said she could be seen “in the background of all of these scenes faxing things.” To which Meyers replied that he had “recently watched it, and it was some of the most believable faxing I’ve ever seen.” However, this small role was supposed to be a part of something bigger.
Apparently, in 2021, it was revealed her appearance on The Office was a set up for spin-off that she was set to star in, but the show never happened. In her Saturday Night Live (SNL) opening monologue, she revealed, “If everything else just falls away, maybe you’ll find me in that ‘Office’ spinoff that no one wants to watch.”
However, this is not the first time Johnson made a comment about her time on the sets of the The Office. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2022, she revealed she felt she felt like she was “crashing someone’s birthday party when they actually really didn’t mean to invite me.”
Johnson recently became a part of Marvel’s cinematic universe with the new release of Madame Web, which also stars Sydney Sweeny and Emma Roberts. Although the movie has received some mixed reviews, many are excited to see what the star-packed movie has to add to the franchise.
