Usher and Alicia Keys Reunite for Super Bowl Performance
During last Monday’s Super Bowl, an event that many fans have been waiting for finally took place—Alicia Keys joined Usher as he performed at the halftime show. After a few hit songs from Usher, Alicia appeared onstage and sang “If I Ain’t Got You.” The two then performed their iconic duet “My Boo.”
The halftime show began with one of Usher’s most popular songs. The American singer, songwriter, and dancer was dressed in an all-white outfit as he sang and danced to “Caught Up.”
His 13-minute performance was an exposition of his biggest hits, including “Superstar,” “U Don’t Have To Call,” and “Love in This Club.” Around him, dancers wore colorful outfits as they gyrated to the beat.
A few songs into the performance, Alicia Keys made her grand entrance. The 15-time Grammy Award winner sat behind a bright red piano and wore a glittery matching red outfit. She launched into her signature hit song “If I Ain’t Got You.”
The two pop icons then belted out “My Boo,” a duet that they first recorded together in 2004. Though it has been 20 years since their collaboration, their joint performance was flawless and they appeared completely in sync with one another. It was clear that they enjoyed performing together as Usher hugged Alicia from behind.
Though there were always rumors that the two singers might have been romantically involved, the pair always insisted that they were just friends. Today, they’re both happily married and remain good friends with one another. Alicia has been married to Swiss Beatz, a record producer and rapper from New York since 2010. They share two children. Usher, on the other hand, is a newlywed who tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea, on February 11—the day before the Super Bowl.
When their performance ended, other guest stars joined Usher onstage. Together with rapper Jermaine Dupri, the show continued with “Confessions Part II.”
Usher then disappeared for a quick costume change while H.E.R. began a guitar solo with “U Got It Bad” and ended with “Bad Girl.”
Usher reappeared. This time, he sported a sparkling black and blue number with roller skates. Will.i.am joined his next number “OMG.”
Lil John followed with “Turn Down For What.” Shortly after, the highly anticipated Ludacris took to the stage as the finale with his energetic version of Usher’s “Yeah!”
Onlookers were in a frenzy and the show was a success. When the halftime performances ended, there were so many dancers and musicians on the stage of Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium that the platform looked quite crowded.
Even the bleachers had a few Hollywood A-listers such as Jay-Z, Paul Rudd, Lebron James, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Of course, Taylor Swift was also there to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce who is part of the Kansas City Chiefs. Throughout the broadcast, cameras frequently zoomed in on Taylor to catch her reactions. She was reportedly in Tokyo the day before so her presence was immensely appreciated by fans. It looks like the trip was well worth it since the City Chiefs won against the San Francisco 49ers at 25 vs 22.
