Meghan Markle Prefers To Be Executive Producer of Suits Than Reprise Her Character

The success of the original TV series Suits propelled Meghan Markle into the spotlight. Though the TV show writers created the perfect role for the ex-royal, she will not be returning as Rachel Zane in the show’s upcoming reboot.

The new program is called Suits: LA and its events take place four years after the original show ended. When rumors of the new production began circulating, one of the most commonly asked questions was, “Will Megan be part of it?”

Sources confirmed Meghan’s involvement: the Duchess of Sussex has no plans to act in the spin-off even if her character played a major role in the show’s first story.

Although the mom-of-two decided not to be an on-screen talent of Suits: LA, an insider revealed that the 42-year-old actress is more interested in becoming an executive producer of the show under her production company.

According to the insider, “Meghan was clear that she didn’t want to be involved as an actor. But Archewell was trying to wiggle its way in as a production company on the spinoff.”

However, this plan didn’t progress because according to the same source, “NBC has killed that idea.”

Meanwhile, Archewell denied this claim and said that Archewell would never be involved in the show’s reboot.

Recall that in Suits, Meghan’s paralegal character was one of the main stars. She played a pretty big role in the program from 2011 until 2017. The show officially ended in 2019, but because of her romantic relationship with Prince Harry, she bid goodbye to her life as an actress.

Last summer, the legal drama gained traction once again and became one of the most streamed shows on Netflix. It was one of the most-watched shows for an impressive 12 weeks.

Speculations about a reboot grew after Patrick J. Adams, who played a lead role as Michael James Ross, started sharing some never-before-seen shots from when Suits was filmed. He included many throwback photos of himself and of his other Suits co-stars, including some intimate shots with Meghan, which he captioned, “I miss my friends.”

In another post, he shared more pictures and the caption, “This well is deep.” The photos drew flak because they were viewed as insensitive given the ongoing actors’ strike. Patrick later deleted them and apologized. He wrote on Instagram, “The last couple of days I foolishly and thoughtlessly let a trip down Suits memory lane distract me from the very real and ongoing fight everyone in [SAG-AFTRA] continues to wage in its effort to win our membership realistic 21st-century compensation and protections.”

Fans of the show, however, were hopeful that a comeback of the hit TV series was imminent. One month later, the spinoff series was announced with news that it was already in development under NBCUniversal.

The original Suits creator, Aaron Korsh, is returning for the spinoff. He will also serve as writer and executive producer alongside David Bartis, Dog Liman, and Gene Klein.

Suits: LA follows the same legal world as the original but will introduce new characters. The location of the story will also be changed from New York to Los Angeles.
