Nothing’s Stopping Martha! At 82, Martha Stewart Shows Off Age-Defying Pilates Moves
Martha Stewart may have found the secret to eternal youth: her impressive Pilates moves. The 82-year-old showed greater strength and flexibility than women a lot younger than her after attending her regular Pilates session at New York’s Bedford Pilates & Fitness Studio.
During the class, Martha recorded a 37-second video where she showed off her moves. She uploaded the clip on Instagram and captioned her upload with, “Harder and more effective than it looks.”
The footage showed Martha lying on her back while on the reformer, her legs elevated as she assumed the tabletop position. She had her ankles crossed while holding on to the straps behind her. As she moved, she stretched her arms towards the ceiling before repositioning them down to her hips. The exercise is meant to strengthen her arms and abs.
Across from her was the equally pliant Dr. Rekha Kumar, an obesity specialist and endocrinologist in New York City. Dr. Kumar was also on top of a reformer on Martha’s left side.
So far, Martha’s video has received over 200 comments from fans who were convinced that Martha has found the secret to staying young and vibrant. One of the comments read, “The fountain of youth, ladies and gentlemen.”
Another person gushed, “Martha [in] her Pilates era, omg I love it.” Someone else wrote, “Pilates on the reformer keeps me young!”
Sharing another detail of their workout, Dr. Kumar commented, “We are quite in sync for 7 AM! I’m sore!” Indeed, it was an early morning training sesh for the ladies.
Martha also shared another proud moment when she uploaded a video of her doctor pal executing a new position on the reformer. She captioned the clip with, “My inspiration.”
To which the doctor responded, “Humbled to inspire someone who so many aspire to be because of your grace, grit, and strength.”
The following day, Martha shared an additional picture of herself with an undeniably youthful glow. She snapped the photo while picking up her coffee. At the time, she wore a snug and warm puffy down coat from Aritzia.
Martha has always been vocal about her love for Pilates. In April 2023, she posted, “Eating very well. Pilates three times a week. Horseback ride once a week. No smoking. Little drinking. Green juice daily.”
When she guested on the Today Show last May, she shared her routine with its viewers, “I went to Pilates every other day, and that was great. I’m still going to Pilates every other day because it’s so great. And I just, I live a clean life anyway—good diet and good exercise and healthy skin care and all of that stuff.”
Undoubtedly, Martha is in a good and confident place. Last month, she shared a selfie where she donned a sexy nightgown. She also graced the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue last year, making her the oldest woman to appear on the magazine’s front page.
While the media continues to idolize young women, Martha is breaking barriers and showing people that growing old is not just something that must be tolerated—it can be celebrated and enjoyed.
