Is Michelle Trachtenberg OK? Buffy’s Little Sister Receives Backlash for Her Unhealthy Looks
Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress who famously played Dawn Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s little sister, is in the spotlight once again. This time, the 38-year-old star is receiving backlash for looking ill on her Instagram account.
While in Beverly HIll’s Mèche salon, an establishment owned by Tracey Cunningham, the star snapped and uploaded a photo of herself before getting her hair done. What was supposed to be a quick and fun Instagram update turned into numerous comments from haters who slammed the actress for her appearance while questioning her weight. In response, Michelle spent the entire week shutting them down and replying to the malicious and cruel assumptions of the public.
With 788,00 followers tuned in, she blasted the negative comments last Friday by writing, “Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems. Why do you have [to] hate? Get a calendar.”
An Instagram user named @cathy_critz wrote, “Michelle [you] look sick. [Are you] OK?”
Michelle snapped back, “@cathy_critz explain to me how I look sick. Did you lose a calendar and not realize I’m not 14? I’m 38. How sad for you to leave such a comment.”
The following day, the Daytime Emmy Award nominee shared another selfie. In it, she shared a photo of her newly dyed pink-tipped hair with the defiant caption, “I’ve received several comments recently about my appearance. I have never had plastic surgery. I am happy and healthy. Check yourself, haters.”
Though she added two more selfies, many fans felt that Michelle was missing their point as they continued to express their concerns over her health. One fan clarified that they’re not worried about Michelle having plastic surgery or even being malnourished. They’re disturbed by the actress’ yellow eyes and thinning hair.
Many agreed with this fan’s comment. Another emphasized, “Nobody is talking about plastic surgery. They are talking about your liver shutting down.”
Yellow eyes and thinning hair are symptoms of a liver problem so Instagram user @heather_mcgillick added, “I don’t think anyone was implying you had plastic surgery. We are generally concerned about you. Your eyes are yellow, your hair is [thinning] majorly, you look sick.”
The comments left on her profile range from recommendations that she see her doctor as soon as possible to clarifications that the comments weren’t intended to criticize her looks.
Michelle rose to fame when she joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was in 66 of the show’s episodes that aired from 2000 to 2003.
The Brooklyn native also had a recurring character as The Witch of the Upper East Side, Georgina Sparks, in Gossip Girl from 2008 to 2012. Last year, Michelle returned for two episodes of the show’s reboot.
After taking on younger roles, Michelle became an executive producer and host for the 2021 production of the 13-episode true crime documentary series Meet, Marry, Murder.
Despite the criticisms, Michelle remains firm about the importance of maintaining one’s health although many still encourage her to see a doctor ASAP.
