Is Ariana Grande Using Her Newest Single to Clap Back at Critics?

Ariana Grande has earned the ire of people close to Ethan Slater’s ex-wife, Lilly Jay. The singer was recently accused of being a homewrecker and failing to show remorse over her controversial relationship with Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. But it looks like the singer has had enough because she seems to be venting out some of her frustration through her newest single entitled, “Yes, And?”.

Recall that last year, the 30-year-old hitmaker made headlines when news came out that she was dating her Wicked co-star. What made the situation more controversial is the dating rumor surfaced just days after Ariana ended her marriage with her ex-husband, 28-year-old Dalton Gomez.

This caused many raised eyebrows, especially since there was speculation that Ariana and Ethan started their illicit relationship while they were still married to their respective spouses. Mere days after Ariana split from Dalton, Ethan also ended his marriage with Lilly, his high school sweetheart with whom he shares a son.

Because of recent events, Ariana was dubbed a homewrecker. The young singer seems eager to respond to all the backlash with her new single. It includes the lyrics, “Your business is yours, and mine is mine. Why do you care so much whose d**ck I ride?”

One source who’s close to Lilly slammed the singer for her disrespectful attitude and called Ariana out for displaying zero empathy. Although there aren’t many details about how they started their relationship, many disapprove of it because they were both married at the time. Several people think that Ariana hitting back as if she were blameless is distasteful and disrespectful.

An insider raged, “Ariana is dating a man who is still married. She is flaunting her relationship with a married man—a married man who has a one-year-old child at home with his still wife. Yes, Ariana has destroyed a home, and she does not seem to care.”

Another source also ripped the singer for failing to show maturity and growth which was expected because of her new relationship. They continued, “She lacks empathy. Ariana could have taken this opportunity to create music that would be therapeutic for her to heal and for fans to listen to.”

Someone reasoned, “She could have taken this time to create art that would help those who were hurt to heal. But she didn’t. She created art that basically says, “f*** you, I don’t care what I did to hurt anyone because I am happy.”

But one source close to Ariana defended the singer by saying that the song is not addressed to anyone specifically. “The song clearly does not address anyone specific or any one specific instance. Ariana has been the subject of public scrutiny for over a decade. If you watch the video, the people she’s performing to are literally played by critics. The lyrics and the video are really quite clear,” the source claimed.

“It is a song about not judging each other or a situation by hearsay and about how you never know what people are going through or healing from,” said the insider.

The fans of the pop singer were all delighted after Ariana released her newest album last Friday—three years since her last one. The singer’s album challenges people to reflect on why they feel like they need to criticize her life.

One line of the song says, “Now I’m so done with caring what you think, no I won’t hide underneath your projections or change my most authentic life.”

One Reddit user also expressed her disappointment. According to her, Ariana seems to be saying through her actions, “Yes (I stole your husband and destroyed your family) and (I’m gonna pretend like it was no big deal).
