Jennifer Love Hewitt Reveals Her Personal Struggles in 2023
Fans of Jennifer Love Hewitt may have been surprised by her Instagram post last December 31. The American actress, producer, and singer uploaded a makeup-free selfie alongside a note that said she “went through a lot no one knew about.”
The actress wrote, “This year, I went through a lot no one knew about. And was grateful for that privacy. I had the greatest time being a mommy at home with my kids. Learned to be a better baker. Learned it’s okay to take time for myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. Did a lot of praying and manifesting. Belly laughed more than ever.”
She continued, “Had the longest cold of my life. Was forced to have more faith than normal. Learned to love working out as a gain for my mental health. Took chances on myself and my bigger dreams. Sat deeper in grief and was able to let go more. Felt my mom around us and saw signs that she was.”
The “grief” that Jennifer mentioned referred to her mom, Patricia Mae Hewitt, who died at the age of 67 due to cancer-related complications. After Jennifer’s mom passed away in 2012, her absence left an indelible hole in Jennifer’s life. In June 2023, over a decade since Patricia’s death, Jennifer paid tribute to her mom on social media.
She wrote a heartfelt message that read, “Eleven years ago my life changed in a moment. We didn’t get to say goodbye but I think it’s because we wouldn’t have known how. I see you in my kids everyday. I feel you in things I say and smile because I’m more like you than I thought.”
It’s thus no surprise that the I Know What You Did Last Summer star is still learning to cope.
Despite saying goodbye to a turbulent year, it wasn’t all bad for Jennifer. She recalled how she just celebrated ten years of marriage with her husband, 45-year-old actor Brian Hallisay.
She injected some optimism into her update with, “Said goodbye to things that don’t serve positivity in my life and made room for lots of good things in 2024. Celebrated 10 years with my guy. Got some tattoos. And truly let whatever I needed to learn teach me. And so here I am. Happy, blessed, grateful, and filled with hope.”
“I will be praying our world gets better this year and everyone sees less pain, fear, and heartbreak. Love to all, and Happy New Year!”
Jennifer’s personal life as a wife and mom seems to be flourishing. In 2021, the couple welcomed their son, Aidan James. The actress announced their third baby with a black and white photo of her baby bump with some scribbles on it.
Explaining the writing on her belly, she wrote on Instagram, “Well, this is how my kids sent me to the hospital. My belly was a big hit. It is said that women leave their bodies in labor… they travel to the stars to collect the souls of their babies, and return to this world together. It was my greatest honor to go and collect you, Aidan James. Now, back to snuggles and resting.”
Jennifer and Brian got married in 2013. Aside from Aidan, they are parents to 9-year-old Autumn James and 7-year-old Atticus James.
